Monkey just before fading off to sleep: Mama, do you want me to go somewhere?
Me: (Laughing) What do you mean? Of course not! You’re my snuggle puppy, and I want you to stay here with me. (Wait, I sound like a controlling, crazy mom). When you’re older, you can go anywhere you’d like either by yourself, or with friends.
Monkey: I don’t want to go by myself. Or with friends. (Laughs nervously). And I am a big boy. I can go where I want to go. I can take Alaska Airlines.
Me: Yes, this is true. But when you’re older you can do more things on your own.
Monkey: (Pause) I want to go places with you. Do you want to come with me? I want to go with you and we will be together, and it will be fun!
Me: Of course Monkey. (Big hug).
